Coosa River
Jordan Lake map
Jordan Lake is the downstream Alabama Power reservoir on the Coosa River. State hydro tables date Jordan Dam to 1928 and place it near Wetumpka, in Elmore County. Alabama Power’s shoreline guide puts the lake in Chilton, Coosa, and Elmore counties and lists 5,880 acres, 108 miles of shoreline, and a full pool of 252 feet.
Last Coosa pool, and the Bouldin forebay
Jordan is a run-of-river lake, like Mitchell just upstream and unlike the storage lakes at the top of the Coosa. Below Wetumpka the Coosa meets the Tallapoosa and the two rivers become the Alabama River, so Jordan is the last Coosa reservoir before that confluence. The same shoreline guide lists Walter Bouldin Lake separately, in Elmore County: 920 acres, 10 miles of shoreline, and the same 252-foot full pool, with the note that 253 feet applies in the forebay. Bouldin is that smaller forebay pool, not a second name for Jordan. Older combined acreage figures sometimes folded the two together.
Who a Jordan Lake map is for
Choose Jordan for a house on the Coosa near Wetumpka, not for Lake Martin or Thurlow on the Tallapoosa and not for Woodruff Lake, which is the first Corps pool on the Alabama River. “Jordan Lake” is also a well-known reservoir in North Carolina. Search “Jordan Lake, Alabama” and pick the Coosa result. A Bouldin shoreline is the small Elmore County forebay beside it, not the 5,880-acre Jordan pool.
