Tallapoosa River
Thurlow Lake map
Thurlow Lake is the downstream Alabama Power reservoir on the Tallapoosa River at Tallassee, below Yates Lake. State hydro tables date Thurlow Dam to 1930. The shoreline guide places the lake in Elmore and Tallapoosa counties and lists 574 acres, 6 miles of shoreline, and a full pool of 288.5 feet.
Six miles of shoreline
Those 6 miles are the figure in Alabama Power’s shoreline guide, set next to Lake Martin’s 880 miles and Yates Lake’s 40 miles in the same table. Thurlow is run-of-river, like Yates and unlike Martin and Harris. It is the last of the company’s Tallapoosa dams. The river continues from Tallassee to meet the Coosa near Wetumpka, where the Alabama River begins. Jordan Lake is the Coosa pool at that end of the system, not an extension of Thurlow.
Who a Thurlow map is for
A Thurlow map is for a place on this short pool at Tallassee. A Lake Martin print will show the big storage reservoir instead, and a Yates print stops at the next dam upstream. Search “Thurlow Reservoir, Alabama.” Because the pool is small, confirm the preview shows Tallassee and the Tallapoosa before you pay.
