Point A Lake map
Point A Lake is the other PowerSouth reservoir on the Conecuh River in Covington County, paired with Gantt Lake. PowerSouth says Point A Dam began operating in 1926 and was named for the preferred site in an engineering study. The 1929 flood destroyed it along with Gantt, and both were rebuilt.
Why it is called Point A
The name is the survey label, not a family name. PowerSouth operates the dam as run-of-river, together with Gantt: inflows from the Conecuh and Patsiliga Creek are passed through, so the pool moves with the weather. The 2004 FERC notice describes Point A as about 700 acres at a normal elevation of 170 feet, against about 2,767 acres and 198 feet for Gantt in the same document. The state conservation department also lists Point A at 700 acres near Andalusia. Those two sources agree on the acreage. They are still two lakes, and a gift should name which one.
Who a Point A map is for
Choose Point A when the house or the boat is on the smaller pool, and Gantt when it is on the larger one. Lake Jackson at Florala is a natural border lake in the same part of Covington County, not a PowerSouth reservoir. Search “Point A Reservoir, Alabama” and look at the preview before you print.
