Coosa River
Logan Martin Lake map
Logan Martin Lake is an Alabama Power reservoir on the Coosa River east of Birmingham. State hydro tables date Logan Martin Dam to 1964 and place it near Vincent. The Encyclopedia of Alabama’s history of the company describes the dam as part of the Coosa construction east of Birmingham. Alabama Power’s shoreline guide lists Calhoun, St. Clair, and Talladega counties.
Between Neely Henry and Lay
The shoreline guide lists 15,263 acres, 275 miles of shoreline, and a full pool of 465 feet. Logan Martin is a storage lake, so the winter pool is lower than the summer pool. Lay Lake, the next reservoir downstream, is run-of-river: Lay Dam has been operating since 1914 and its level does not follow the same seasonal drawdown. The lake is named for William Logan Martin Jr. The Encyclopedia of Alabama notes that Lake Martin, on the Tallapoosa, was named for his brother, Thomas Wesley Martin, and that the two lakes are not the same.
Who a Logan Martin map is for
This is the map for houses on the St. Clair and Talladega shoreline east of Birmingham, including the Pell City side of St. Clair County, and for anglers who keep a boat on this pool rather than on Neely Henry or Lay. A wedding or a housewarming on Logan Martin needs this shoreline, not Lake Martin’s. Search “Logan Martin Lake, Alabama” so the customizer does not return Lake Martin.
