Black Warrior River
Holt Lake map
Holt Lake is the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers pool on the Black Warrior River just north of Tuscaloosa. ADEM describes it as the reach from Holt Lock and Dam upstream to Bankhead Dam, in Tuscaloosa County. Alabama Power’s shoreline guide lists it as a USACE-owned reservoir of 3,296 acres.
North of the city, not the North River
The Corps owns Holt Lock and Dam. The Encyclopedia of Alabama says Alabama Power’s powerhouse there began generating on August 15, 1968. Lake Tuscaloosa is a different body of water: the city dammed the North River for drinking water, and that reservoir is north of Tuscaloosa and Northport but is not the navigation pool. Bankhead Lake is the next Corps pool upstream of Holt.
Who a Holt Lake map is for
A Holt map is for a place on the Warrior between Holt Dam and Bankhead Dam. If the house is on the city’s drinking-water lake, use the Lake Tuscaloosa page. If it is farther upstream toward Birmingham, use Bankhead. Search “Holt Lake, Alabama” and pick the Black Warrior reservoir.
