Chattahoochee River
Lake Eufaula map
Lake Eufaula is the local name for Walter F. George Lake, a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reservoir on the Chattahoochee River between Alabama and Georgia. ADEM places it on that border in east Barbour and Henry counties. The Corps’ water-control manual puts the dam about one mile north of Fort Gaines, Georgia, with the west-bank dike in Henry County, Alabama, and the east-bank dike in Clay County, Georgia.
Eighty-five miles up to Phenix City
The same Corps manual says the reservoir extends about 85 miles up the Chattahoochee to Columbus, Georgia, and Phenix City, Alabama, and that it provides a nine-foot navigation depth from the dam to those cities. A printed map of “Lake Eufaula” is a map of Walter F. George Lake, including Georgia shoreline. Barbour and Henry are the Alabama counties ADEM names. The dam is not in Eufaula; Fort Gaines, Georgia, is the town the manual uses for the dam site, and Eufaula, Alabama, is on the pool.

Search “Walter F. George Reservoir, Alabama” and choose the Chattahoochee reservoir in Barbour County. “Lake Eufaula” can label the same water under the Georgia side of the dam.
