Big Creek Lake, also called J.B. Converse Reservoir, is the drinking-water supply for Mobile. The Mobile Area Water and Sewer System describes the watershed as 104 square miles in Mobile County, with Big Creek, Crooked Creek, and Hamilton Creek the three largest tributaries. ADEM places the reservoir near the Alabama–Mississippi line and identifies it as Mobile’s water supply, under both the Big Creek and Converse names.
Converse Reservoir
MAWSS also names Juniper Creek, Collins Creek, Long Branch, and Boggy Branch as feeder streams. The state conservation department lists the lake in the Escatawpa basin at 3,600 surface acres, near Mobile. This is not a Corps navigation pool and not a PowerSouth hydro lake. Coffeeville and Claiborne are river pools much farther north. A Big Creek map is a map of the Mobile water-supply reservoir.
