Coffeeville Lake map
Coffeeville Lake is the southernmost reservoir in the Corps’ Black Warrior–Tombigbee chain. The Corps’ recreation page places it below Coffeeville and says the Choctaw National Wildlife Refuge, managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, lies on the lake and is managed primarily for migratory waterfowl. ADEM says the reservoir follows the eastern edge of the Sumter and Choctaw county line.
The refuge pool
Demopolis Lake is upstream, at the fork of the Warrior and the Tombigbee. Coffeeville is the long downstream reach, and the wildlife refuge is the fact that distinguishes it from that fork and from Claiborne Lake on the Alabama River. The state conservation department lists the nearby town as Jackson and the surface as 8,500 acres. The Corps also notes day-use areas on the lake and a campground at Service Park.
