Bear Creek Reservoir map
Bear Creek Reservoir is the oldest of the four TVA lakes on Bear Creek in northwest Alabama. TVA’s project assessment says construction finished in 1969 and places the dam at Bear Creek mile 74.6 in Franklin County, 10 miles southeast of Red Bay and about 30 miles southwest of Sheffield. The pool lies partly in Franklin County and partly in Marion County.
Not the same lake as Upper Bear Creek
The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources lists Bear Creek Reservoir at 670 surface acres, near Red Bay. Upper Bear Creek is a later, separate reservoir near Haleyville. Little Bear Creek and Cedar Creek are the other two TVA pools in the same watershed. All four dams are non-generating. A gift labeled only “Bear Creek” needs the town — Red Bay and Hackleburg for this pool — or it will be the wrong shoreline.
