Upper Bear Creek Reservoir map
Upper Bear Creek Reservoir is the upstream lake in TVA’s Bear Creek system in northwest Alabama. A TVA environmental assessment places the dam at Bear Creek mile 114.7 in Marion County, about five miles northwest of Haleyville and 16 miles southwest of Russellville, and dates completion to 1978. The reservoir lies in Franklin, Marion, and Winston counties.
The floatway dam
TVA’s Alabama fact sheet says the agency schedules releases from Upper Bear Creek Dam to support canoeing and kayaking on the Bear Creek floatway. That release schedule is specific to this dam, not to Bear Creek, Little Bear Creek, or Cedar Creek. TVA also describes all four Bear Creek dams as non-generating: they are flood-control and recreation structures, not powerhouses like Guntersville, Wheeler, or Wilson.
Who an Upper Bear Creek map is for
